Important Cabinet Approvals: January 23, 2019

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved some of the following MoUs on January 23, 2019.

  1. Cabinet approves MoC between India and Japan in the field of Food Processing Industry 
  2. Cabinet approves Memorandum of Understanding between India and Kuwait for cooperation on the Recruitment of Domestic Workers 
  3. Cabinet approves Amendment to the ‘Framework on Currency Swap Arrangement for SAARC Member Countries’ to incorporate ‘Standby Swap’ amounting to USD 400 million operated within the overall size of the Facility of USD 2 billion
  4. Cabinet approves extension of Delhi Metro corridor from Dilshad Garden to New Bus Adda Ghaziabad 
    • The total distance of the extended line will be 9.41 km. The central financial assistance of Rs.324.87 crore for extension has been approved at the total completion cost of Rs.1,781.21 crore.
  5. Cabinet approves creation of the National Bench of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) 
    • The Tribunal shall be situated at New Delhi. It shall be presided over by the President and consist of one Technical Member (Centre) and one Technical Member (State).
    • Its creation would amount to one time expenditure of Rs.92.50 lakh while the recurring expenditure would be Rs.6.86 crore per annum.

 

Subhash Chandra Bose Museum Inaugurated at Red Fort by PM Modi

  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Subhash Chandra Bose Museum at the iconic Red Fort on January 23, 2019 to mark his 122nd birth anniversary.
  • He inaugurated a set of 4 museums, spanning three centuries, that will together be known as Kranti Mandir. It marks a tribute to the revolutionary zeal and courage of the great freedom fighters.
  • The 4 museums under the Kranti Mandir within Red Fort complex includes:
    1. Museum on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Indian National Army 
    2. Yaad-e-Jallian Museum on Jallianwala Bagh and World War 1
    3. Museum on 1857- India’s First War of Independence
    4. Drishyakala- a Museum on Indian Art
  • Netaji was born at Cuttack in Odisha on January 23, 1897. He formed the Indian National Army (INA) also known as the Azad Hind Fauj to fight the British.

Government Institutes Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar

  • The Government of India has announced to set up an annual award titled Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar to acknowledge the contribution and selfless service of organisations and individuals in Disaster Management. 
  • This award will be announced every year on 23 January on the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
  • The first edition of the award as given on January 23, 2019 to the 8th Battalion of National Disaster Response Force located at Ghaziabad for its commendable work in disaster management. 
  • It carries a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 51 lakh. 

Indian Economy to grow at 7.2% in FY19 and 7.3%in FY20: CRISIL

  • Crisil Ratings has predicted India’s growth rate at 7.3 per cent in 2019-20 and 7.2 per cent in 2018-19 up from 6.7 per cent in 2017-18.
  • It said the current account deficit (CAD) would reduce to 2.4 per cent of GDP in fiscal 2020 from 2.6 per cent in fiscal 2019.

India’s GDP growth to be 7.6% in FY20, 7.4% in FY19: UN WESP

  • According to the UN’s World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2019, India’s GDP growth is expected to accelerate to 7.6 per cent in 2019-20. India’s GDP growth rate for 2018-19 as per UN is 7.4%.
  • The report has also predicted that India will continue to remain the world’s fastest-growing large economy in 2019 as well as in 2020.
  • The report further said the global economy would continue to grow at a steady pace of around 3 per cent in 2019 and 2020.

Maharashtra Govt ties up with Yes Bank to offer limited banking services through ration shops

  • In a unique initiative, the Maharashtra government has collaborated with the private sector Yes Bank to enable Fair Price Shops to offer limited banking services to the far flung rural populations.
  • Under this first-ever initiative, through the e-PDS programme, ration shops in the state will be taken on board as Business Correspondent Agents’ (BCAs) of Yes Bank.
  • These BCAs would provide small-value cash deposits into any bank accounts including domestic remittances and withdrawals from any account via Aadhaar-Enable Payment System (AEPS).

India Placed at 80th Spot on Global Talent Competitive Index 2019

  • India ranks 80th out of 125 countries in the Global Talent Competitive Index (GTCI) 2019, released by INSEAD business school in partnership with Tata Communications and Adecco Group.
  • The report was released on day first of the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
  • The index has been topped by Switzerland. Singapore, US, Norway and Denmark are the top five countries on the list respectively.
  • Despite India moving one place above in this year’s ranking and China falling two places below, China is the best performer in the BRICS nations standing at 45th spot.

India ranked 54th in the Bloomberg 2019 Innovative Index; Top- South Korea

  • India has been ranked at 54th position among the world’s most innovative countries, according to Bloomberg 2019 Innovative Index.
  • South Korea has retained the top spot with a score of 87.38, while Germany scored 87.30 to be second on the list. Finland is third.
  • Vietnam was on last position among 60 countries.

Saraswati Samman 2017 conferred upon Gujarati poet Sitanshu Yashaschandra

  • The 27th Saraswati Samman was conferred upon eminent Gujarati poet Sitanshu Yashaschandra on January 22, 2019.
  • Organised by the K K Birla Foundation, the award for 2017 was given to Yashaschandra for his poetry collection, ‘Vakhar’, published in 2009.
  • The announcement regarding the prize had been made in April 2018.

Vice President Releases the book titled ‘Universal Brotherhood Through Yoga’

  • The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu launched the book named ‘Universal Brotherhood through Yoga’ on January 21, 2019 in New Delhi.
  • The book has been compiled by Bharatiya Sanskrit Pitham and covers the philosophy behind all Yoga practices.
