NPCI reduces UPI usage charges to Rs 0.10 from Rs 0.25

  • The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has reduced the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) usage fees for small transactions less than Rs 1,000 to 10 paise from 25 paise.
  • For transactions above Rs 1,000, the charge has been retained at 50 paise.

Kotak Bank First lender to Levy Charges on UPI Transactions Effective From May 2019

  • The Indian private sector bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, has notified that the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions will no longer be free to use for peer-to-peer transaction above a monthly limit of 30 transaction with effect from May 2019.
  • The UPI fund transfers will be free of cost for the first 30 transfers in a month, thereafter the bank will charge in the following manner:
    • For transaction below or equal to Rs. 1,000 – Rs. 2.50 per transaction
    • For transactions above Rs. 1,000 – Rs. 5.00 per transaction along with 18 per cent GST
    • The charges will be applicable on all fund transfers done via UPI on any platform including Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay etc.

Google India MD Rajan Anandan Quits to Join VC Fund Sequoia Capital

  • Rajan Anandan, the Vice President for Google South East Asia and India has announced to step down from the post after an 8-year of successful service.
  • He will join Silicon Valley’s marquee venture fund Sequoia Capital to mentor startups.
  • Anandan was the Managing Director at Google India tasked with heading the search giant’s entire India operations.
  • He will continue his role at Google until the end of April 2019.
  • Vikas Agnihotri, Director for Sales at Google India will take on the interim role till a new MD is appointed.

Reliance Mutual Fund Partners Google to Offer Voice-Based Financial Transactions

  • The Reliance Nippon Life Asset Management (RNAM) has partnered with internet major- Google, enabling the customers of Reliance Mutual Fund to carry out voice-based financial transactions.
  • This is a first of its type endeavour in India. Reliance Mutual Fund will offer conversational interface to the customers so that they can carry transaction of funds just by listening and speaking on smartphone or digital device through a series of voice commands
  • Initially the service would be launched in Reliance Simply Save app for the customers and then subsequently in Google Assistant platform for access by all existing and potential investor.

India retains the ICC Test Championship Mace

  • India has retained the ICC Test Championship Mace and won prize money of USD one million for the third consecutive year.
  • The cut-off date for deciding the winner of ICC Test Championship Mace is April 01 each year. India finished at the top of the ICC Test team rankings on the cut-off date

India’s first professional Kho-Kho league “Ultimate Kho-Kho” launched

  • The Kho-Kho Federation of India (KKFI) has launched a franchise-based league for Kho Kho named Ultimate Kho-Kho.
  • KKFI has partnered with Dabur India for this event. Eight teams will participate in the event.
  • CEO of the Ultimate Kho-Kho league: Tenzing Niyogi (former sports advisory leader at Ernst and Young)
  • Chairman of the Ultimate Kho-Kho league: Rajeev Mehta

Batman Selected as First Inductee For Comic-Con Museum’s Character Hall of Fame

  • The fictional superhero character ‘Batman’ has been announced as the inaugural inductee to the Comic-Con Museum’s Character Hall of Fame.
  • The honour was announced as a gift on the “80th Happy Birthday of Batman” on March 30 , 2019.
  • The induction ceremony will be held on July 17, 2019 in Comic-Con Museum in San Diego.
  • The character of batman was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger.
  • It made its first appearance in Detective Comics #27 on March 30, 1939

Veteran film director J Mahendran passed away

  • Director of Tamil Movies, J Mahendran passed away at the age of 79.
  • J Mahendran was one of the greatest filmmakers of Tamil film industry and has influenced several filmmakers of the generations followed.

World Autism Awareness Day: April 2

  • The World Autism Awareness Day is observed on 2 April every year to raise awareness about people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • The theme for World Autism Awareness Day 2019 is “Assistive Technologies, Active Participation”.
  • The day was United Nations General Assembly on 18 December 2007.
