India-Argentina Sign 10 MoUs to Further Bilateral Relations

  • India and Argentina exchanged 10 Memorandam of Understanding (MoU) and agreements during the Argentine President Mauricio Macri’s three-day visit to India from February 17 to 19.
  • The sectors in which these MoUs were signed includes:
    • Defence
    • Tourism
    • Broadcasting content
    • Pharmaceuticals
    • Antartica Cooperation
    • Two MoUs in Agriculture
    • Information & Communications Technology (ICT)
    • Civil nuclear
    • Establishment of Centre of Excellence for Information and Technology
  • 2019 marks 70 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India-Argentina ties.

One Health India Conference Inaugurated in New Delhi

  • The two day long “One Health India Conference 2019” was inaugurated in New Delhi on February 18, 2019 by Union Science & Technology Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan.
  • Objective: To formulate a roadmap for the response, preparedness, and management of current regional, national and global health challenges by bringing together leaders from across the globe.

‘International Vision Zero Conference’ to Promote Occupational Safety and Health Inaugurated in Mumbai

  • The three days International Conference on the VISION ZERO has been organised at IIT, Mumbai from February 18 to 20, 2019.
  • The 5th edition of the conference aims to provide a platform to focus on the Occupational Safety and Health challenges and issues in the Manufacturing, Construction, Mining and Transportation sector.

India Pharma 2019 & India Medical Device 2019 Inaugurated in Bengaluru

  • The 4th edition of India’s biggest Global Conference on Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices was inaugurated in Bengaluru on February 18, 2019.
  • The two days event is being organized by Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers in association with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).
  • The theme of ‘India Pharma 2019’ is ‘Enabling Quality Affordable Healthcare & that of ‘India Medical Device 2019’ is ‘Accelerating Growth to Achieve Universal Healthcare’.

RBI to transfer Rs 28,000 crore as interim dividend to government

  • The Reserve Bank of India has decided to transfer an interim surplus of ₹ 280 billion (Rs 28,000 Crore) to the central government for the half-year ended December 31, 2018.
  • The decision was taken at a meeting between the finance minister Arun Jaitley with the Directors of the RBI Central Board held on February 18, 2019. Shri Shaktikanta Das, Governor chaired the meeting of the Central Board.
  • This is the 2nd consecutive year that the Reserve Bank of India will be transferring an interim surplus to the central government. 

President Kovind Presents Tagore Awards for Cultural Harmony for the Years 2014, 2015 and 2016

  • Indian President Shri Ram Nath Kovind presented the Tagore Award for Cultural Harmony for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 in New Delhi on February 18, 2019.
  • 2014 – Shri Rajkumar Singhajit Singh (an exponents of Manipuri dance)
  • 2015 – Chhayanaut (a cultural organisation of Bangladesh that promoted and preserved the works and philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore) 
  • 2016 – Shri Ram Vanji Sutar (sculptor and scholar famous for creating well-known Statue of Unity)

Sunil Chhetri awarded 1st-ever Football Ratna

  • Indian football player Sunil Chhetri has been awarded with the 1st Football Ratna award by the Football Delhi (the association governing the sport in Delhi).
  • Football Delhi president Shaji Prabhakaran who is a former football player and presently the part of administrator at the All India Football Federation and FIFA, presented the award to Chhetri.

Mary Kom appointed brand ambassador of PUMA

  • Indian boxing champion M C Mary Kom has been appointed as the Brand Ambassador of global sportswear brand PUMA for a two-year period.
  • Mary Kom will lead the #DoYou conversation of PUMA  that aims to motivate women across India to be strong and accomplish their goals.

Dr.G C Anupama becomes first woman President of ASI

  • Dr.G C Anupama has been elected as the president of the Astronomical Society of India (ASI). With this she has become the first woman to head the Astronomical Society of India (ASI).
  • The objective of ASI is the promotion of Astronomy and related branches of science in India.

‘Simplicity & Wisdom’ Written by Mr. Dinesh Shahra Launched at Kumbh 2019

  • The Governor of West Bengal, Keshari Nath Tripathi launched the book titled ‘Simplicity & Wisdom’ at Parmarth Ashram in the ongoing Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj. 
  • It was jointly launched along with Swami Chidanand Saraswati, Head of Parmarth Ashram.
  • The book has been written by famous industrialist and philanthropist Dinesh Shahra and is dedicated to Late eminent Vedanti Swami Pragananandji.

British author, Andrea Levy passed away at 62

  • Andrea Levy, a top author from Britain passed away at the age of 62. She was suffering from Cancer.
  • Levy was best known for her novel “Small Island”.While “The Long Song” was her most recent novel.
