President Kovind Addresses Closing Ceremony of Fourth Agri Leadership Summit in Haryana

  • The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind addressed the closing ceremony of the Fourth Agri Leadership Summit in Ganaur, Sonipat, Haryana on February 17, 2019.
  • During the event, the President conferred Kisan Rattan Pursakaar on Vice Chancellor K P Singh for Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar.
  • He also honoured nine farmers with the Haryana Kisaan Ratna Puraskaa
  • Prez Kovind also launched Digital Kisan Platform.
  • The 4th Agri Leadership Summit-2019 was organised from February 15-17 by the government of Haryana at India International Horticulture Market (IIHM), Ganaur in district Sonipat.

Prime Minister Modi Visit to Barauni in Bihar: Overview

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was on a visit to Barauni in Bihar on 17 February 2019 where he launched a series of development projects worth Rs 33,000 crores for the state 
  • He inaugurated and laid foundation stones various projects in the following fields:

Urban Development and Sanitation

  • Patna Metro Rail Project at an estimated cost of Rs. 13,365 crores to boost transport connectivity in Patna and adjoining areas
  • Karmalichak Sewerage Network spanning 96.54 kilometres
  • First phase of River Front Development at Patna
  • Works related to Sewage Treatment Plants at Barh, Sultanganj and Naugachia.
  • 22 AMRUT projects at various locations.

Overview of PM Modi’s Visit to Hazaribagh and Ranchi in Jharkhand

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Hazaribagh and Ranchi in Jharkhand on 17 February to unveil multiple Projects relateed to health, education, water supply and sanitation. 
  • At Ranchi, Prime Minister interacted with beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana – Ayushman Bharat.  
  • In addition to this, Prime Minister unveiled following projects at Hazaribagh
  • Three medical college buildings at Hazaribagh, Dumka and Palamu
  • Four Rural Water Supply Schemes in Ramgarh and Hazaribagh districts
  • Sahibganj Sewerage Treatment Plant, and the Madhusudan Ghat, under the Namami Gange initiative
  • Women Engineering College Building in Ramgarh

Andhra Pradesh to launch Annadata Sukhibhava scheme 2019 for farmers

  • Andhra Pradesh Government has announced a scheme Annadata Sukhibhava scheme 2019 for its farmers under which Rs 9000(per year) each to the farmers with less than 5 acres will be given.
  • This is in addition to the Rs 6,000 announced by the Central Government under the PM-KIsan Scheme.
  • Farmers having land more than 5 acres, will be given Rs 10,000 per year.

Andhra Pradesh to Get its’s First District Cooling System

  • Andhra Pradesh government has entered into an agreement with UAE based international cooling provider to get the states first district cooling system in its new capital Amaravati.
  • Under the 30 year contract, cooling capacity of 20,000 refrigeration tonnes will be provided to Andhra Pradesh government and the cooling services will commence from early 2021. 
  • District cooling was first set up in India at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT). The first phase of this system, with a capacity of 10,000 RTs, has been operational since April 2015.

Telangana Now Has 33 Districts with Creation of Narayanpet and Mulugu

  • The Government of Telangana, on February 16, 2019, issued a notification about creation of two new districts namely, Narayanpet and Mulugu.
  • These newly carved districts have become functional from February 17.
  • Now the total number of districts in the state have increased to 33.
  • Narayanpet will have 11 revenue blocks and Mulug will have 9 blocks 
  • Mulugu district has been carved out from the existing Jayashankar Bhupalpally district 
  • Narayanpet district has been carved out from the present Mahbubnagar district 

Commerce Ministry launches “Anytime-Anywhere” online export awareness programme

  • Ministry of Commerce & Industry has launched a new online “Anytime-Anywhere” export awareness course to train, mentor and hand-hold potential exporters so as to help them to tap international trade opportunities. 
  • This Online Course has been funded under the ‘NiryatBandhu’ scheme of DGFT and is in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi.

Govt issues guidelines to set up EV charging stations; fuelling points every 25 km

  • The government has issued a set of guidelines to set up charging stations for electric vehicles across the country. The main points are:
    • Public charging station should be on both sides of the highways or roads on every 25 km.
    • For long range and heavy-duty electric vehicles, there should be at least one station on each side of the highway every 100 kilometers.
  • The government expects 25 per cent of the total vehicles on roads will be electric vehicles by 2030.

SBI launches Nayi Disha Programme for work-life balance of its employees

  • The State Bank of India has launched a programme named Nayi Disha to ensure proper work life balance for its 2.6 lakh staff.
  • The bank has hired an external hand to design the programme, and started implementing it.
  • The Programme focuses on work-life balance and also involves the staffs’ immediate family members, also giving them the ability to inform the bank if an employee is not able to leave work on time.

Abdul Aziz Muhamat Wins 2019 Martin Ennals Award

  • A Sudanese refugee activist Abdul Aziz Muhamat, who spent four years in this Australian detention centre, has been named the winner of the prestigious Martin Ennals award 2019.
  • Abdul Aziz Muhamat, 26, has won the international human rights prize for exposing the very cruel asylum seeker policy of the Australian government.

Vidarbha beat Rest of India to Defend Irani Cup

  • The 2018-19 Ranji champions Vidarbha beat Rest of India at the VCA stadium in Nagpur to retain the Irani Cup for second consecutive year.
  • Vidarbha become the third team after Bombay and Karnataka to defend both the Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup.
  • Player of the match: Akshay Karnewar (Vidarbha)

Elise Mertens Beat Simona Halep to Win Qatar Open

  • The World number 21, Elise Mertens of Belgium, beat top seed Simona Halep 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to win the Qatar Open.
  • This is the first-ever WTA Premier-level crown for 23 year old Mertens and the fifth title of her career overall.
