Ministry of Housing launches “Light House Projects challenge”

  • Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has launched “Light House Projects challenge” for States/ UTs to select six sites across the country for constructing the Lighthouse projects under Global Housing Technology Challenge-India (GHTC- India).
  • The winning six States/ UTs that score the highest marks across the prescribed criteria will be awarded lighthouse projects.
  • The selected sites for lighthouse projects will be used as an ‘open laboratory’ for live demonstration. The States/ UTs will receive Central Assistance to construct these projects as per PMAY (U) guidelines. 

International Conference “INAGMET-2019” Begins in New Delhi

  • The International Symposium on “Advances in Agro meteorology for Managing Climatic Risks of Farmers” (INAGMET-2019) was inaugurated at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi on February 11, 2019.
  • The 3 day international conference from February 11 to 13,  2019 has been jointly organised by Association of Agro meteorologists (AAM), India Meteorological Department (IMD), Indian Centre of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Indian Agricultural Research Institute and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
  • INAGMET-2019 is a platform for professionals, scientists, policy makers and other social groups to share knowledge and experience about the risks and uncertainties in agricultural production system due to increasing climatic variability and weather extremes and identify the technologies/practices and develop a roadmap to overcome these issues through agrometerology

INS Trikand participated in exercise Cutlass Express 2019

  • The 18th edition of annual multinational maritime exercise Cutlass Express 2019 was held near Djibouti, Mozambique and the Seychelles from 27 Jan to 06 Feb 19.
  • The Cutlass Express 2019 was sponsored by US Africa Command (AFRICOM) and conducted by US Naval Forces Africa.
  • From India, INS Trikand, a front-line warship of the Indian Navy, participated in a multinational training exercise ‘CUTLASS EXPRESS – 19’. (commanded by Captain Srinivas Maddula)
  • The aim of the exercise was to improve law enforcement capacity, promote regional security and progress inter-operability between the armed forces of the participating nations for the purpose of interdicting illegal maritime activity in the Western Indian Ocean.
  • 15 Countries took part in Cutlass Express 2019 that includes Canada, Comoros, Djibouti, France, India, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Portugal, Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania, the Netherlands and the US.

  • The 72nd edition of the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) was held on 10 February 2019 in London to honour the best national and foreign films of 2018.
  • “The Favourite” won the most number of nominations (12), winning 7 awards.

Pankaj Advani wins 86th senior snooker national championship

  • India’s top cueist Pankaj Advani has defeated Lakshman Rawat by 6-0 to win the 86th Senior Snooker National Championship title.
  • Advani won by 70-36, 91-22, 66-06, 65-51, 77-49, 59-18 in the finals.

Corentin Moutet Lifts Chennai Open ATP Challenger 2019 Title

  • The second seed, Corentin Moutet of France defeated Andrew Harris of Australia 6-3, 6-3 in the singles final to clinch the 2019 Chennai Open ATP Challenger tournament title.
  • In doubles event, Gianluca Mager and Andrea Pellegrino defeated Matt Reid and Luke Saville 6–4, 7–6 to win the title.

International Epilepsy Day 2019 Observed on February 11

  • The International Epilepsy Day is observed every year on the second Monday of February.
  • In 2019, the International Epilepsy Day is being observed on February 11.
  • The day is organised by the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) and the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) to raise awareness about epilepsy and highlight the kinds of problems faced by victims, their friends and family. 
  • Epilepsy is a neurological disorder which makes a person go through sudden and recurrent episodes of sensory disturbances.
