ISRO Launches DRDO’s Observational Satellite EMISAT Along 28 Foreign Satellites Onboard PSLV-C45

  • The Indian Space Research Organization, ISRO, on April 1, 2019, created a new history by launching India’s latest observation satellite EMISAT along with 28 other smaller international satellites from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
  • The launch vehicle PSLV-C45, was used to carry the 29 payloads. It was the 47th mission of India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
  • The 436 kg, electronic intelligence satellite, EMISAT, will be used for electromagnetic spectrum measurement and help military in locating hostile radars. Its devices have been developed by Defence Research and Development Organization, DRDO.

China launches first of its kind, second generation data relay satellite

  • China has successfully launched the first of its new-generation data relay satellites named Tianlian II-01 satellite, into orbit. It will provide data relay, measurement and control services for its manned spacecraft.
  • The Tianlian II-01 satellite was launched by a Long March-3B carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre.

Army Constructs 260 feet ‘Maitri Bridge’ on Indus river to link Villages in Leh

  • War veterans of Ladakh region, led by 89 year old Naik Phunchok Angdus (Retd), dedicated a cable suspension bridge named ‘Maitri Bridge’ to the nation to commemorate 20 years of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
  • The bridge is constructed over the Indus river at Choglamsar in Leh and is the longest suspension bridge over the Indus river.
  • The 260 feet Maitri Bridge will link the Choglamsar, Stok and Chuchot villages (largest villages of Ladakh region) to Leh to ease the life of locals.
  • The bridge has been constructed by the Combat Engineers (Sahas aur Yogyata Regiment) of the Fire & Fury Corps of the Indian Army in a record time of 40 days

Deadline to Link PAN with Aadhaar Extended till September 30

  • The government has further extended the last date to link Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar number by 6 month till 30 September 2019.
  • Earlier the last date for the same was March 31, 2019.
  • This is the sixth time the government has extended the deadline for individuals to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar.

Satish Magar Takes Charge as New National President of CREDAI

  • Satish Magar has taken over as the new national President of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) on March 31, 2019.
  • CREDAI is the apex body of private real estate developers in India.
  • Magar is the managing director of Magarpatta City. He succeeds Jaxay Shah to become the new president of the 20-year-old body.

Manu Sawhney takes over as CEO of ICC

  • Manu Sawhney from India has taken over the charge as the Chief Executive Officer of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
  • He has replaced David Richardson as the CEO. He was elected as the CEO of ICC in January 2019.

Roger Federer Claims his 4th ATP Miami Open Title

  • The 35th edition of the Miami Open Tennis Tournament 2019 was held from March 18, 2019 to March 31, 2019.
  • Swiss professional tennis player, Roger Federer won his fourth ATP Miami Open title 6-1, 6-4 to outclass defending champion John Isner of US.
  • This is also the 37 year old Swiss player’s 28th Masters title and the 101st overall career singles title

India Concludes 12th Asian Airgun Championships 2019 with 25 Medals

  • The 12th Asian Airgun Championship was held at Taoyuan City of Chinese Taipei from March 26 to April 1, 2019.
  • 179 athletes from 11 member federations took part in airgun events.
  • India completely dominated the championship with an overall medal tally of 25 medals including 16 gold, five silver and four bronze.
  • Throughout the championship, both the senior and junior teams showed extraordinary performance to win 16 out of 18 gold medals on offer during the tournament.

Lewis Hamilton wins Bahrain Grand Prix 2019

  • Lewis Hamilton (Britain- Mercedes) has won the Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix 2019. Valtteri Bottas was second while Charles Leclerc was third in the F1 race.

Earth Hour Day 2019: March 30

  • Earth Hour is a global movement, initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which is observed every year near the end of March, for one hour, encouraging people to conserve power by turning off their lights and all non-essential electric components.
  • The 2019 Earth Hour was observed on March 30 and people were encouraged to switch off the lights for an hour from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM local time.
  • The 2019 event was based on the theme #Connect2Earth.
  • The first Earth Hour was started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia, in 2007
