‘Krishna Kutir’ of Ministry of Women and Child Development inaugurated in Vrindavan

  • The Minister for Women & Child Development, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, along with Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Adityanath Yogi inaugurated the ‘Krishna Kutir’ at Vrindavan, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. 
  • Krishna Kutir is a special home for 1000 widows set up by the Ministry of Women & Child Development under Swadhar Greh scheme of the Ministry and is the largest ever facility of its kind created by a government organization.
  • The Home for Widows, Krishna Kutir has been constructed on 1.4 hectare of land through National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) at a cost of Rs 57.48 Crores (including cost of the land) with a capacity of 1000 inmates.

4th BIMSTEC Summit Concludes with Adoption of Kathmandu Declaration

  • The 4th BIMSTEC Summit has been successfully concluded in Kathmandu, Nepal which was held between 30-31 August 2018.
  • The Prime Minister of Nepal K.P. Sharma Oli presented draft Kathmandu declaration which was unanimously adopted by the all member states.
  • The Nepalese Prime Minister handed over the chairmanship of BIMSTEC to the President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena. The 5th BIMSTEC Summit will be held in Sri Lanka.

Germany to provide a soft loan of euro 120 million to India to clean river Ganga

  • Germany has announced to provide a soft loan of euro 120 million to India to help clean the holy river Ganga. It will be used to strengthen sewage water treatment infrastructure in Uttarakhand.
  • Germany will use its experience to clean its river Rhine. It took Germany 30 years and 45 billion euros to clean Rhine river.
  • German development agency GIZ has prepared a ‘Ganga Book’ on the line of ‘Danube Book’. It will have all mythological, social-cultural and economic importance information related to the river.

UIDAI relaxes minimum Aadhaar enrolment targets, related deadlines for banks: Nov 1

  • UIDAI has extended till November 1 the deadline for banks to do minimum Aadhaar enrolments and updations in identified branches.
  • The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has asked banks to ensure that at least eight enrolments or updations are carried out daily in each stipulated branch from November 1, 2018, to avoid financial disincentives to be applicable from July 2018.

Merger of Idea Cellular and Vodafone India completed: Important Points

  • The merger of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular is complete after the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved the merger, creating India’s largest telecom operator.
  • Name of the merger entity: Vodafone Idea Limited
  • Chairman: Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla
  • CEO: Mr. Balesh Sharma
  • Vodafone Group Plc owns a 45.2% stake and Aditya Birla Group owns a 26.0% stake, both on fully diluted basis.
  • After Vodafone-Idea merger, Bharti Airtel is now no longer the country’s largest mobile phone company in terms of subscribers and revenue share.

RBI approves Rana Kapoor’s re-appointed as Yes Bank MD

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the re-appointment of Rana Kapoor as the Yes bank’s MD and CEO.
  • His re-appointed comes in effect from September 1, 2018.

Sunil Mehta elected Chairman of Indian Banks Association (IBA)

  • The Indian Banks Association (IBA) has elected Punjab National Bank’s managing director and chief executive, Sunil Mehta, as the new chairman for 2018-19.
  • Deputy Chairman: Dina Bandhu Mohapatra (managing director and chief executive of Bank of India)

7th Meeting of National Medicinal Plants Board Held at New Delhi

  • The Seventh meeting of National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) of Ministry of AYUSH was held at New Delhi on August 30, 2018.
  • The meeting was held under the chairpersonship of Minister of State for AYUSH, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik.
  • The government is committed to bring State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB) under the AYUSH Umbrella for overall development of medicinal plants sector.

  • Small Industry Day is celebrated on 30 August every year in support and promotion of small Industries.
  • Industry day is celebrated as a part of its effort to provide balanced growth to existing small, medium and large scale enterprises and render assistance for setting up new industries to boost the state’s financial health.
