Gujarat tops the chart for most number of beneficiaries under PMAY (Urban)

  • Around 2.75 lakh beneficiaries have availed a subsidy scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), with Gujarat topping the chart. 
  • aharashtra and Madhya Pradesh had the most number of beneficiaries under the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) after Gujarat. Over 88,000 beneficiaries have been disbursed CLSS in Gujarat.

Government launches Bhasha Sangam to introduce school students to 22 Indian languages

  • The government has launched an initiative named Bhasha Sangam to introduce school students to 22 Indian languages. The initiative, under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, was launched on 22nd of November and will continue till the 21st of December, 2018. 
  • Bhasha Sangam is a programme for schools and educational institutions to provide multilingual exposure to students in Indian languages. There are 22 languages listed in Schedule VIII of the Constitution 

‘eDrishti’ software for monitoring of Indian Railway launched

  • The Indian Railways has unveiled a software named ‘eDrishti’  that will help Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to keep a track of punctuality of trains as well as freight and passenger earnings – and much more – from anywhere in the country.
  • The ‘eDrishti’ software has been developed by the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) to help the Minister keep track of all information related to Indian Railways.
  • The software has also been connected with the base kitchens of the Indian Rail Catering and Tourism Corp (IRCTC) as many complaints comes regarding the quality of food served on trains.

8 States achieve 100% household electrification under Saubhagya; total 15 States now have 100 % household electrification: Power Ministry

  • Shri RK Singh, Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and Renewable Energy announced that 8 States have achieved 100% saturation in household electrification under Saubhagya namely Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Bihar, J&K, Mizoram, Sikkim, Telangana and West Bengal. Thus total 15 States in the countrynow have 100 % household electrification.
  • Saubhagya – ‘Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana’ was launched in September, 2017 with the objective to provide access to electricity to all the remaining households in the country.
  •  The Government is committed to ensure 24×7 access to electricity for all by 31st March 2019.”

South Asia Youth Peace Conference inaugurated in New Delhi

  • The three- day ‘South Asia Regional Youth Peace Conference’ as part of Celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was inaugurated in New Delhi.
  • It was inaugurated by Mr ShriKrishna G Kulkarni, great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Darshan, New Delhi.
  • It is being organised by Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, UNESCO MGIEP and STEP (Standing Together to Enable Peace).

India, China to hold joint military exercises ‘Hand in Hand’ from Dec 10

  • The militaries of China and India would hold a 14 days joint military exercises – ‘Hand in Hand’ in Chengdu city of China.
  • This is the 7th edition of the exercise. The exercises will conclude on December 23 and each side will send 100 troops.

India-UK Naval exercise KONKAN-18 begins at Goa

  • The Bilateral KONKAN exercise between the Navy of Indian (Indian Navy) and the United Kingdom (Royal Navy) began in Goa from November 28, 2018 and will continue toll December 06, 2018.
  • The Indian Navy will field INS Kolkata, the first ship of latest Kolkata class destroyers, equipped with integral Seaking and an IN submarine. In addition, IN maritime patrol aircraft, Dornier will also participate in the exercise.

UGC to set up a consortium for approved journals – CARE

  • University Grants Commission, UGC has decided to set up a Consortium of Academic and Research Ethics (CARE) which will prepare a fresh list of credible quality journals in the non-science disciplines. 
  • CARE will be headed by the UGC Vice Chairman, Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan.

World Gold Council appoints David Tait as next CEO

  • The World Gold Council on has announced the appointment of David Tait as its next CEO. David will join the organisation on January 7, 2019 as CEO Designate for a transitionary period before becoming CEO on February 25
  • He will succeed Aram Shishmanian, who served as CEO over the last 10 years.

Magnus Carlsen wins 2018 World Chess Championship

  • Magnus Carlsen (Norway) convincingly retained his world chess champion title by beating Fabiano Caruana 3-0 in the rapid match.

Stephen Hillenburg Creator of ‘SpongeBob Squarepants’ Passes at 57

  • Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of the megahit Nickelodeon cartoon series “SpongeBob SquarePants,” has passes away due to motor neurone disease (also known as ALS). He was 57.
  • ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a rare terminal illness that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. It’s also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
  • Hillenburg not only created the character but also directed the 2004 “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie”.
