Ministry of Defence to launch Mission Raksha Gyan Shakti

  • Ministry of Defence will launch Mission Raksha Gyan Shakti on November 27 to increase Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) filing in design.
  • The purpose is to increase self-reliance by reducing the transfer of technology and dependence on foreign companies for the technologies.
  • The project will be formally launched by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on November 27, 2018. The aim is to train 10,000 personnel in the year 2018-19.

India GDP to Slow Down Marginally, But Remain Strong at 7.5% in 2019 & 2020: OECD

  • The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) as said that India ’s economic growth will slow down somewhat but remain robust, at close to 7.50% in 2019 and 2020.
  • The Paris based organisation said in its 2018 Economic Outlook that India’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew 6.7% in 2017-18.
  • OECD projects GDP at market prices to grow 7.3% in 2019 and 7.4% in 2020 from 7.5% in 2018.
  • The Reserve Bank of India expects FY19 growth at 7.4%.Global credit rating agency Moody’s Investors Service has projected India’s economic growth to moderate to 7.3% in 2019 and 2020.

DGFT Notifies Bhadohi in UP as a Town of Export Excellence

  • The town of Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh has been notified as a Town of Export Excellence by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) for the product category ‘Carpets and other floor Coverings’.
  • Bhadohi district famously known as Carpet city, will be the 37th town in India to get this status. 
  • Under the ‘Towns of Export Excellence’ tag, carpet makers of the city will get financial assistance from the central government to procure modern machines, improve export infrastructure, and organise fairs and exhibitions in different parts of the world to attract global buyers.

J&K Bank brought under purview of RTI, CVC, State Legislature

  • Jammu and Kashmir Bank has been brought under the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) act, the Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) guidelines and the State Legislature 
  • The State Administrative Council (SAC) under the chairmanship of Governor of J&K Satya Pal Malikapproved the proposal for treating the J&K Bank Limited as a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU).
  • The SAC approved that the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information Act, 2009 shall be applicable to the bank like other PSUs. Besides, the bank shall follow CVC guidelines.
  • Established in 1938, the J&K Bank Ltd is the only state government promoted bank in the country, with the Jammu and Kashmir government currently holding 59.3 per cent of the shares. 

UN selects Noida to participate in Global Sustainable Cities 2025 plan

  • The United Nations has selected Uttar Pradesh’s Noida and Greater Noida to participate in its Global Sustainable Cities 2025 initiative.
  • Overall 25 cities across the world have been selected in five categories by the UN Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) cities initiative.
  • Noida-Greater Noida are the only cities to be selected from India and have been selected under the “University City” category.
  • The SDGs, otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Monaco to host 2019 Laureus Awards on February 18

  • The 19th edition of the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards will be held in Monaco on February 18, 2019.
  • Considered the ‘Oscars of sports’, the Laureus World Sports Award 2019 will honour the global sporting achievements of 2018 and celebrate the power of sport to change the world.
  • Former India cricket captains Kapil Dev, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar are members of the Laureus Academy which also has other big sporting names.

Sameer Verma wins Syed Modi International Badminton Championships; Saina loses to Han Yue

  • Syed Modi International Badminton Championships 2018 was held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium.
  • Sameer Verma (India) won the Men’s Single title by defeating China’s China’s Guangzu Lu.
  • The Women’s Single title was won by Han Yue of China as she defeated Saina Nehwal in the finals.

Australia wins Women’s T20 World Cup

  • Australia defeated England to win the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2018 held in West Indies.
  • This is the 4th time Australia has wont the event. They had earlier clinched the prestigious title in the years 2010, 2012 and 2014.
  • Harmanpreet Kaur was the captain of Indian team in the tournament.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women: November 25

  • The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women: November 25 (designated by United Nations General Assembly)
  • The 2018 theme is Orange the World: #HearMeToo 
  • Aim: To raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence; furthermore, one of the aims of the day is to highlight that the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden. 

National Cadet Corps (NCC) Celebrates 70th Raising Day

  • The National Cadet Corps (NCC),the largest uniformed youth organisation in the world, is celebrating its 70th Raising Day on November 25.
  • National Cadet Corps is a Tri-Services Organization, comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force, engaged in grooming the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens. 
  • The National Cadet Corps in India is a voluntary organization which recruits cadets from high schools, colleges and universities all over India. The Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. 

Veteran Kannada Cinema Actor Ambreesh Passes Away at 66

  • Veteran Kannada actor and former minister M H Ambareesh passed away in a Bengaluru hospital after suffering from a heart attack. He was 66. .
  • He has served as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting from 2006 to 2008

Former Railway minister CK Jaffer Sheriff Passes Away

  • Former Union railway minister CK Jaffer Sharief passed away in Bengaluru. He was 85.
  • Sharief, who was once a close confidant of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, had been elected to Parliament eight times.
  • He was the Union Railway Minister between 1991 to 1995 for which he is remembered as it was during this period that Indian Railways comprehensively moved largely to broad gauge from meter gauge.
