WCD Ministry links ‘SHe-Box’ to central, state ministries

  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development has linked SHe-Box — the online portal to report complaints of Sexual Harassment at the workplace– to all ministries, departments and 653 districts across 33 States/Union Territories.
  • SHe-Box, which was launched by Maneka Gandhi last year, offers the facility of making online complaints of sexual harassment at the workplace to all women employees in the country including government and private employees.

Dr Kalam Knowledge Centre, Aerospace Park to come up in Kerala

  • ISRO chairman Dr K Sivan visited Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at his office in Kerala and held discussion on the proposed Dr Kalam Knowledge Centre and Aerospace Park.
  • Both projects are planned to come up in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala and are envisaged as a joint venture of the state government and ISRO.

Lupin launches chatbot ‘ANYA’ for health-related queries

  • Drug maker Lupin has launched a computer programme or chatbot named ANYA specially designed to provide medically verified information for health-related queries.
  • It is the first of its kind to be launched in the country for disease awareness.

Mechuka Adventure Festival begins in Arunachal Pradesh

  • Salman Khan inaugurated the sixth edition of Mechuka Adventure Festival, in which the race is also an event.
  • Promoting adventure tourism in Arunachal Pradesh, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan alongside MoS for Home Kiren Rijiju and CM Pema Khandu cycled in the state kicking off Mechuka Adventure Festival.
  • Salman Khan is the ambassador of Arunachal Pradesh tourism.

UNICEF appoints Nahid Afrin as ‘Youth Advocate’ for North East

  • Popular singer Nahid Afrin of Assam has been appointed as the first ‘Youth Advocate’ of the north eastern region by the UNICEF to fight for child rights.

  • The Forbes India Leadership Awards, India’s most prestigious honour for the top executives, was held on November 22 in Mumbai. 
  • Entrepreneurs and company bosses were awarded across nine different categories. 
  • Azim Premji, Chairman of Wipro, was awarded the Forbes India Leadership Awards 2018 Lifetime Achievement.

Kareena Kapoor Honoured With FILA 2018’s Icon of Cinema Award

  • The 8th Forbes India Leadership Awards (FILA) 2018 was held in Mumbai on November 22 to celebrate excellence, innovation and transformational leadership in business.
  • This year the awards span across nine categories with the nominees and winners representing diverse backgrounds.
  • Kareena Kapoor Khan was conferred with FILA 2018’s Icon of Cinema Award.

Former JNU Professor S.P. Ganguly Wins Mexico’s Highest Civilian Honour

  • Shayam Prasad Ganguly, former professor of Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, has been felicitated with the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle, the highest civilian honour of Mexico.
  • SP Ganguly is the first Indian academician to be given this striking gold-yellow award by Mexican government.
  • He was recognised for his “outstanding work in the study and dissemination of the Spanish language and Mexican culture”.
  • Ganguly is a well-known Hispanist who headed the Centre for Spanish and Latin American Studies at JNU

Classical musician Ustad Imrat Khan passes away at 83

  • Indian classical music doyen, Ustad Imrat Khan, known for promoting the sitar and the surbahar internationally, has passed away in the United States at the age of 83.
  • Ustad Imrat Khan turned down the Padma Shri last year saying the recognition had come too late and diminished his achievements.
