Govt Unveils Draft UDAN Scheme for International Routes

  • The Centre has unveiled a draft scheme for extending affordable air travel programme UDAN to international circuits with the aim to increase air connectivity between the Indian states and selected international destinations through the provision of financial support to airlines..
  • The draft International Air Connectivity (IAC) scheme envisages to increase international ticketing to 20 crore by 2027. 
  • Under the first of its kind scheme, the state government will identify the list of routes to be connected for operation and airline operators will assess demand on the identified routes and submit proposals for providing connectivity.
  • The scheme has proposed to set up an International Air Connectivity Fund (IACF) — a dedicated fund for providing subsidy support under the scheme. The state government will provide the monetary support, in the form of a subsidy per seat, for the unsold seats from the number of seats as bid by the airline to make operations viable. 
  • Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme was launched in 2016 to make air travel affordable for people through subsidised ticket rates and to provide air connectivity to smaller towns.

Flipkart launches dedicated portal for refurbished goods- ‘2GUD’

  • Retail giant Walmart-owned leading e-tailer Flipkart has unveiled a dedicated portal ‘2GUD’ for refurbished goods, including mobile phones, laptops and tablets.
  • This comes after, Flipkart recently shut down the operation of ebay India business.
  • The platform has been launched on mobile browsers initially through the site 2gud.com, and it will soon be accessible through desktop browsers and a mobile application.

Alinz, Petrocard tie up to make portable petrol pumps in India

  • The Alinz Portable Petrol Pump Pvt Ltd (APPPPL) has tied up with Czech firm Petrocard (technology partner) to set up four manufacturing units in India for self-service portable petrol pumps at an investment of Rs. 1,600 crore.
  • The concept of portable petrol pumps is new to India and has received the approval of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and would enable us to refuel our vehicle on our own by making digital payment.
  • A portable petrol pump is an automatic self-service machine dispensing petrol, diesel and kerosene. The payment are cashless, through facilities like e-wallets.
  • These pumps will ease the life of people especially in rural areas, mountains regions and remote locations and can be set up in just about 400 sq mts as against huge land requirement for normal gas stations.

EX HOP exercise :First-ever IAF-RMAF joint air exercise begins in Malaysia

  • The first-ever joint air exercise involving the Indian Air Force and the Royal Malaysian Air Force commenced at Subang Air Base in Malaysia.
  • The joint air exercise was named EX HOP.

Renewable Energy India (REI) 2018 Expo to be held in Greater Noida

  • The Renewable Energy India (REI) 2018 will be organised by B2B events organiser UBM India from September 18 to 20 In Greater Noida.
  • India’s clean energy sector is expected to attract additional investments worth $1 billion (Rs 6,987 crore) during the renewable energy expo.
  • REI is a global platform where India’s green economy community congregates to discuss industry trends, challenges and market insights including the Indian regulatory framework.

HAL becomes first PSU to transact on TReDS: RXIL

  • The Receivables Exchange of India (RXIL) has said that Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) has become the first public sector enterprise to make a transaction on the “TReDS platform”.
  • TReDS is an online electronic institutional mechanism for facilitating the financing of trade receivables of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) through multiple financiers.

P.V Sindu ranked 7th in Forbes Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2018; Serena Williams top

  • Indian Badminton star P.V Sindhu has been ranked 7th in the Forbes Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2018 list. She is the only Indian in the list and has a total earning of $8.5 million.
  • Tennis Star Serena Williams has topped the ranking with total earnings of $18.1 million.
