Rajnath Singh inaugurates 2 CIMBS pilot projects in Jammu

  • Union Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh on Monday inaugurated two Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) pilot projects along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu region.
  • The smart border fencing projects built under the CIBMS programme is the first of its kind in the country.
  • CIBMS uses a number of different devices for surveillance, communication and data storage.  Sensors like Thermal Imager, UGS, Fiber Optical Sensors, Radar, Sonar have been mounted on different platforms like Aerostat, tower, poles etc.

MTaI MedTekon 2018 to be held in New Delhi

  • NITI Aayog Member Dr. Vinod K. Paul will inaugurate MTaI MedTekon 2018 in New Delhi on September 20, 2018.
  • This is the first seminar where representatives from the entire medical technology sector will be present to talk about Ayushman Bharat (formally known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).

Dr. Mahesh Sharma releases National Museum Research Bulletin, published after a gap of 16 years

  • The Minister of State for Culture (Independent Charge) and Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Dr. Mahesh Sharma released two important publications of the National Museum (M/o Culture), Sindhu Ghati Sabhyata:Ek Parichay (Hindi) and the National Museum Research Bulletin Number 10: Special issue (In House Publication), in New Delhi
  • The National Museum Research Bulletin has been revived after a long gap of 16 years.

Nepal-China Joint Military Drill Sagarmatha Friendship-2 Begins

  • The second edition of the 12-day Nepal-China joint military exercise “Sagarmatha Friendship-2’” (Mt Everest Friendship Exercise-2018) started at Chengdu, the capital of China’s southwestern Sichuan Province.
  • The drill will be held from September 17 to 28

West Bengal Rolls Out “Swayangsiddha” to Combat Human Trafficking

  • The West Bengal government has rolled out a scheme named Swayangsiddha in an attempt to combat human trafficking.
  • The scheme Swayangsiddha – which means self-reliance – will be executed by the West Bengal Police in different districts of the State.
  • The scheme aims to empower young boys and girls to make informed choices so that they are less vulnerable to trafficking and child marriage.

Govt to merge BoB, Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank

  • The government has said state-owned Bank of Baroda, Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank will be merged to create the country’s third largest lender.
  • The envisaged amalgamation will be the first-ever three-way consolidation of banks in India, with a combined business of Rs 14.82 lakh crore, making it the third largest bank after SBI and ICICI Bank.
  • Post this merger, the number of PSU banks will come down to 19.

PayU gets RBI approval for NBFC

  • PayU India has received RBI approval to operate its own NBFC.
  • It will help the company launch new product variants faster and address new segment of consumers for providing Credit on Tap.
  • PayU has already crossed Rs 100 crore ($16 million) mark for credit issuance on the existing platforms.

Moutaz Mousa Abdallah Sworn in Sudan’s new Prime Minister

  • Moutaz Mousa Abdallah has been sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Sudan.
  • He is also holding the finance portfolio of his 21- member cabinet in a bid to revive the country’s ailing economy.

Sanjeev Ranjan appointed as Chairman, NHAI

  • Sanjeev Ranjan, a 1985 batch IAS officer, has been appointed as the the Chairman of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in the rank and pay of Secretary. He is at present serving in his cadre state Tripura.
  • It is a part of bureaucratic reshuffle in which 30 Senior Officers have been transferred.

Prashant Kumar  has been appointed as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the State Bank of India (SBI).

Former Wrestler Ganpatrao Andalkar passed away at 83

  • Well-known wrestler Ganpatrao Andalkar died Sunday at a private hospital in Pune at 83.
  • Andalkar, a former Olympian who took part in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, had bagged the coveted “Hind Kesari” title in 1960.

Former Union minister Satya Prakash Malviya passes away at 84

  • Former Union petroleum minister Satya Prakash Malaviya passed away due to cancer. He was 84.
  • Malaviya has served as the petroleum minister in the cabinet headed by former prime minister Chandra Shekhar.
  • He also served as environment minister in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet. He began his political career as a member of Praja Socialist Party. He later joined the Congress.

Malayalam Actor Captain Raju Passes away at 68

Veteran Malayalam actor, Captain Raju, passed away at his residence in Kochi. He was suffering from stroke. He was 68.

September 16: International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer

  • The International Day for the preservation for Ozone layer (World Ozone Day) is observed annually on September 16 to spread awareness of the depletion of the Ozone Layer and search for solutions to preserve it.
